Ascensia is the brand name of a line of blood glucose monitors manufactured by Bayer. Bayer makes a variety of meters in the Ascensia line. The Ascensia line includes the following meters: Ascensia CONTOUR Blood Glucose Monitoring System, Ascensia BREEZE Blood Glucose Monitoring System, Ascensia DEX 2 Blood Glucose Monitoring System, Ascensia ELITE Blood Glucose Monitoring System and Ascensia ELITE XL Blood Glucose Monitoring System.
Ascensia CONTOUR uses Ascensia MICROFILL Test Strips. Ascensia BREEZE and Ascensia DEX 2 use the convenient Ascensia AUTODISC that holds 10 test strips. Both the Ascensia ELITE and Ascensia ELITE XL use single test strips.
Ascensia and Multiple Site Testing
All of the Ascensia meters are cleared for multiple site testing. That means that samples can be taken from less sensitive testing sites like your forearm, palm, abdomen or the thigh, instead of your fingertip.
Prior to utilizing alternate site testing, please consult the doctor treating you for his/her opinion. Alternate site testing is defined as, getting a blood sample from an area other than the fingertip. Alternate site testing offers a good option for many people with diabetes, but should not be started without a doctor's permission.
