Avandia can be used alone or in combination with a sulfonylurea, metformin, or insulin. It can also be used alone when diet, exercise, and one of these agents is not enough to control blood sugar.
Avandia is not a substitute for diet, and exercise. A doctor will prescribe Avandia as part of an overall diabetes treatment plan. The dosing of Avandia and the use of Avandia in combination with other diabetes medicines, can only be decided by your doctor.
Insurance Coverage for Avandia
Avandia is a diabetes medicine available only through a prescription from the doctor treating you for diabetes. As with all your diabetes supplies and medicines, your insurance plan will usually cover a certain portion of the overall cost. It is important to check with your insurance to determine in advance how much out of pocket expense your diabetes supplies and medicines will cost you. Most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, have a co-payment that is usually around 20%. The co-pay of a drug will vary by plan and by drug.
