Glyset

You are Here: Life with Diabetes   Glyset

Glyset is a drug manufactured by Bayer Pharmaceuticals and is used in patients with Non Insulin Dependence Diabetes Mellitus for glycemic control. It is prescribed for diabetes patients who are not able to control their blood sugars through diet and exercise and are experiencing uncontrolled hyperglycemia.

Glyset may also be used in combination with a sulfonylurea when diet plus either Glyset or a sulfonylurea alone does not provide adequate glycemic control.

Diabetes Treatment and Glyset

A well-designed diabetes treatment plan for non-insulin dependent diabetics usually starts with dietary changes and daily activity. The diabetes treatment plan usually focuses on weight reduction through a healthy, well-balanced diet, and a daily exercise regimen. If glycemic control cannot be accomplished through the diabetes treatment plan described above, Glyset may be indicated for glycemic control.

Glyset and Your Doctor

Glyset is only available through a doctor's prescription. Glyset should only be taken according the recommendations of a health care professional. Never take any medication prior to consulting a healthcare professional about the possible side effects of the medications alone or in combination with other prescribed medicines. Glyset tablets are available as 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg tablets. The dosing of Glyset will be determined by your doctor and will vary from patient to patient.

Glyset is not a substitute for diet and exercise. Glyset is usually prescribed as part of an overall diabetes treatment plan that includes diet, exercise, and other medicines.

Insurance Coverage for Glyset

Glyset is a diabetes medicine available only through a prescription from the doctor treating you for diabetes. As with all your diabetes supplies and medicines, your insurance plan will usually cover a certain portion of the overall cost. It is important to check with your insurance to determine in advance how much out of pocket expense your diabetes supplies and medicines will cost you. Most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, have a co-payment that is usually around 20%. The co-pay of a drug will vary by plan and by drug.
