Preventing Obesity
The critical factor in preventing obesity is too engage in a lifestyle that promotes health and weight control. Controlling body weight is a matter of maintaining healthy eating habits and engaging in daily activity.
The first factor in preventing obesity is to assess your current diet and lifestyle. If your current diet is high in fat and you are leading a sedentary lifestyle, you are at risk for gaining weight.
The next step is to work with your doctor and most likely a nutritionist to put a health plan in action. A health plan will consist of a diet and exercise regimen that is safe for you.
Obesity Prevention and Diet
Your doctor and nutritionist will be able to guide you on how to change your eating habits to control and loose unhealthy body weight. Most likely you will be put on a diet high in protein, vitamins, minerals, and low in fat. Most diets will usually have no more than 20% of calories from fat, 40%-60% in carbohydrates, and 20%-30% in protein. Your doctor and nutritionist will be able to advise you on what your total daily caloric intake should be to reach your weight goals.
Obesity Prevention and Exercise
Preventing obesity or just maintaining a health weight requires moderate daily activity. Moderate daily activity is usually considered 30-60 minutes of exercise each day. Walking, riding a bike, jogging, swimming, aerobics, and even gardening, are all effective methods of daily activity.
The key to safely engaging in daily activity starts with your primary care doctor. Before starting any type of new exercise program, it is important to check with your doctor for permission and guidance. Your doctor will be able to advise you on how much and the type of exercise that is safe for you.
